Bio
Sik Yin Chan, EdD, MSW, LICSW, CFSW
With over 20 years as a social work administrator and practitioner, 14 years of teaching experience, and strong research and evaluation background, integrating theories and research into practices have always been my passion.
I consider myself a lifelong learner and have a Doctor of Education from Concordia University. I received a Master of Social Work from Portland State University, Graduate Certificate in Gerontology, and BA degree in Social Work from Concordia. I obtained a license to practice clinical social work in both Oregon and Washington states, and I am also a certified financial social worker.
I have experience working with adults of all ages and their families. As a bi-lingual and bi-cultural Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I specialize in change management, career counseling, cultural adjustment, cross cultural marital counseling, financial therapy, and retirement.
Taking the first steps towards wellness and change can be overwhelming. My goal is to create a space where individuals can feel safe to share their struggles and learn to expend their resources and strategies to cope with the anticipated or unanticipated challenges that life throws their way.
No matter the circumstances surrounding someone's situation, I believe that a counselor and client working together is the foundation of an effective helping process. As a counselor, I listen with compassion and walk alongside my clients, while sensitive to their feelings and experiences, to identify the appropriate coping strategies and turn their challenges into growth opportunities.
