Kristen Atwood, LMHC
Bio
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with a Master’s of Science in Mental Health Counseling. My goal is to help empower you to find your inner strength, balance, and happiness amongst lifes’ challenges! I have experience as a therapist working with a variety of issues in all stages of life. I have worked as a therapist in multiple levels of care including Crisis Support in the Emergency Room, Intensive Community Treatment Services (ICTS), Outpatient Services and School-Based Services. My specialty population includes adolescents, adults, and couples. My specialties include adoption, anxiety, depression, foster care, PTSD/Trauma, panic attacks and men and women's issues.
My approach to therapy is to uncover the presenting issue and focus on how to help you in the here and now. I provide support, encouragement and help heal people who are experiencing struggles that aren't easy to get through on their own. I use an eclectic approach in which I use various therapeutic interventions. Some of the interventions I use include CBT, Collaborative Problem Solving, Solution Focused Therapy, Strength-Based and TF CBT and other approaches.
Growing up in the foster care system and being adopted at a young age has instilled in me a desire to help others build healthy relationships and be able to identify their emotions and how to cope with them. Overcoming these challenges made me want to help others do the same. I am married and have one child, a Samoyed dog and a cat (our fur children). In my spare time I love to hike and spend time outdoors and spend time with friends and family.
