Kevin Xiong, LMHC
Bio
In a sense, my theoretical framework is a roadmap that directs my therapeutic work with my
client’s and outlines my beliefs about interpersonal interaction and intrapersonal interpretation of humans, particularly
in the counseling process. I believe people are shaped by the systems in which they live, their relationship with
systems/others, past experiences (contextual richness) and an innate drive for connection and belonging. I also believe
the nature of people's problems are based in their disconnection, insecure attachments and relationships with
others and systems which shape their perspectives, thought process, and understanding of life and self-worth.
When they experience problematic symptoms of disconnection it is often led by their understanding of self, their
capacity to reach out for resources and their learned interactional patterns during adolescence. Thus, our experiences
with social connection shape our development, our perspectives, our capacity to interact and our overall well being.
I take a collaborative approach with my client s investing in the therapeutic alliance while being process driven, skills
focused and goal oriented. I understand every client comes into counseling looking for a different level of support
and I strive to cater my skills to what my client's are seeking. My clinical approach is to be honest, straightforward, kind
empathetic and analytical, helping my clients come to a better understanding about what they are going through.
