Licensed Clinical Supervisor

Written by Real Life Counseling | Jul 27, 2024 11:51:53 PM

RLC provides mental health outpatient therapy in a private practice setting, utilizing in office and tele-health services. We work with a combination of Medicaid Funded Insurances, Private Insurances and Private Pay. Real Life Counseling provides executive and administrative services to our team of Independent Clinicians. Instead of getting caught up in the distractions of running a business, such as insurance billing or administrative procedures, our counselors focus on what they do best: counseling. This allows our Clinical team to direct their energy to where it matters most: our clients.

The goal of the Clinical Supervisor positions is to support new 1099 Independent Contractor Counselors, both Associate Licensed and Licensed, in being successful growing into their practice and business competencies, while navigating thru the credentialing process.  Counselors are generally trained in clinical competencies but not as business owners and RLC recognizes the need for identified support to help ensure their successful completion of personal and professional goals.  RLC values it’s business partnership with its host of 1099 Counselors, recognizing the mutual benefits this role provides.  As a 1099 Independent Contractor Clinician, counselors experience freedom and opportunity they would otherwise not have in traditional medical agencies and RLC’s purpose for Clinical Supervisors is to journey alongside them as “seasoned” 1099’s" who offer both the clinical and business acumen, supervision and consultation needed to hone their career path.

    • The goal is to meet the majority of your Associate Licensed Clinician’s needs during supervision time. However, because Real Life Counseling’s site is different from traditional mental health agencies in that you are not always onsite with your Associate Licensed Clinician to answer questions, there is an expectation that you are reasonably available to answer questions or concerns during typical office hours. This means that you should expect to spend more than an hour a week supporting Incident to Billing Counselors, including those who are Associate Licensed.
    • During supervision meetings you are responsible for documenting what is covered during that time within the EHR system.
    • Supervisor’s provide at least one hour of supervision/week.
    • Supervisors must review and sign all documentation through Reliatrax at minimum on a weekly basis.

  • During an Incident to Billing Counselor’’s first week of seeing clients, we ask that you have a plan to be on-site with them to help them through the process. If their first session is telehealth, then we ask that you are available to them during that time in-case issues arise. It is your responsibility as a supervisor to support the Incident to Billing Counselor through this process.
  • If you take time off and your Incident to Billing Counselor is going to see clients while you are away, it is your responsibility to find another RLC Clinical Supervisor (or similarly qualified and licensed RLC contracted clinician) to be accessible to support those Incident to Billing Counselor’s while you are out of the office.
  • If your Incident to Billing Counselor ends their contract with RLC, we ask that as a supervising clinician to that counselors caseload, you support their clients through pairing with a new clinician. If you are not able to find one, then a new referral will need to be put through our website.  You may also use our clinical email to assist in coordinating/identifying new providers.
  • Maintain your own CEU’s (Clinical Supervisors have free access to the RLC Online Training Platform “Relias” and complete most, if not all, CEU’s required by WA State. WA State currently allows all CEU’s to be completed online for Licensed Mental Health Counselors.  Incident to Billing Counselor’s are provided the opportunity to “buy” access to this same training platform ($30/month).
  • Complete Clinical Supervisor training as required by the State of WA for all Clinical Supervisors.

    Additional Information
  • An Incident to Billing Counselor can maintain their own preferred caseload, much like any 1099 Independent Contractor Counselor.  Part of the “mentorship” a Clinical Supervisor provides is supporting the Incident to Billing Counselor in “growing” in their clinical experiences and practices - this is especially so for newly graduated and/or Associate Licensed Counselors.
  • It is requested that Clinical Supervisors carry a caseload of 10 Incident to Billing Counselor.  A Clinical Supervisor who displays capacity to oversee the treatment of more than 10 Incident to Billing Counselors can request to supervise up to 12 but it is recommended by RLC to not carry more than that.  Clinical Supervisors must display the competent capacity to oversee the treatment provided by those Incident to Billing Counselors to ensure their own capacity to engage with each provider and stay engaged in the treatment process of each of their clients.

Supervisor Compensation

  • As an RLC 1099 Independent Contractor, the Supervisors are contracted to receive 5% of their Associate Licensed Clinician’s billable and collected session reimbursements.
  • Clinical Supervisors have an adjusted contracted rate for their own sessions (available upon application)
  • Eligible Incident to Billing Counselors are currently able to work with all or most of the major insurances that a 1099 Independent Contractor Clinical Supervisor is contracted with and bills “through” the Clinical Supervisor.  Incident to Billing Counselors  are also able to work with private pay clients and Incident to Billing Counselors  set their own private pay rate, cancellation rate and any sliding scale rate they may use.  As with any new provider, it takes an Incident to Billing Counselor a few weeks to build up their caseload to full capacity.
  • Clinical Supervisors also receive access to the contracted RLC Online Education & CEU Platform of Relias
  • Please remember that there can be a lot of cancellations and no-shows for the population that Intern Clinicians are working with at RLC. Additionally, when Intern Clinicians are first starting you will likely be investing more time in them and they may not have any clients.
