— The contract —

How this role works.

RLC provides mental health outpatient therapy in a private practice setting, utilizing in office and telehealth services. We work with a combination of Medicaid Funded Insurances, Private Insurances and Private Pay. Real Life Counseling provides executive and administrative services to our team of Independent Clinicians. Instead of getting caught up in the distractions of running a business, such as insurance billing or administrative procedures, our counselors focus on what they do best: counseling. This allows our Clinical team to direct their energy to where it matters most: our clients.

As an Incident to Billing (ITB) provider, you work under the Supervision of a fully licensed and credentialed Clinician.

RLC is currently only contracting providers who can provide in person or a mix of both in person & tele-health sessions.

— What you receive —

1099 Independent Contractor Licensed Clinician benefits.

  • Collect a contracted percentage of all session income collected, including a capped amount (dependent on which tier you qualify for) that allows you to collect 100% of the session fee when you exceed a monthly revenue minimum. Our contracted fee percentage is adjusted depending upon your use of our office space or providing all sessions virtually, and credentialing preferences.
  • 40% fee — start right away (ITB team) — RLC charges a 40% fee on all collected revenue from billable sessions for clinicians seeking to start right away on our Incident to Billing team. This 40% fee includes Business Formation support and all credentialing costs. Contractors would sign a 1-year contract to remain in this fee structure. Once fully credentialed and after the first year, this role moves into the capped-amount tiers detailed below. This tier also allows a counselor to begin work right away, and we waive the standard office fee for this tier.
  • 40% fee, capped at $4,300 — for Independent Contractors preferring to wait for credentialing to be completed prior to seeing clients and desiring to utilize RLC office space. This tier does not cover initial credentialing costs, and does not include our business formation cost (if desired).
  • 35% fee, capped at $3,800 — for Independent Contractors preferring to wait for credentialing to be completed prior to seeing clients and desiring to provide tele-health-only services and not rent/use RLC office space. This tier can be adjusted if a clinician desires to engage in office-based sessions to the 40% rate and associated cap (review contract for details). This tier does not cover initial credentialing costs, and does not include our business formation cost (if desired).
  • Average reimbursement rates are dependent on Clinician Private Pay Rates and Insurance Set Allowable Rates. Most sessions average between $107–$175 per completed & billable session
  • RLC will credential you with all of our contracted major insurances
  • Referrals — RLC will coordinate and provide you with a consistent flow of referrals so you can maintain the size of caseload that meets your professional and personal needs/goals. RLC can also support/coordinate receiving outside referral sources (e.g. Psychology Today) on your behalf and facilitate the intake process for them.
  • Scheduling — RLC will schedule all your intakes and initiate completion of intake documentation via our Client Portal while you control your preferred demographics and availability — ensuring clinician autonomy over your schedule, caseload and preferred intake frequency while having administrative support.
  • Billing — RLC will complete the billing process for all completed sessions, including navigating unexpected billing barriers on your behalf.
  • Practice location & services — a furnished office (it is expected that all clinicians using our office space use it for at least 75% of actual sessions — meaning, for every four hours of requested office space you would be completing 3 sessions); RLC Google Workspace platform including our Virtual Session platform of Google Meet; and an EHR system designed by counselors, for counselors, that includes scheduling, billing, client portal and documentation — structured to support your documentation, mitigate insurance take-backs and make the occasional records request easy and simple.
  • Business Email — all 1099 Clinicians are provided with a business email and access to HIPAA-compliant Google Workspace as part of the contracted services at no additional cost.
  • CEUs — you can opt into a contracted service for unlimited access to our Relias Education & CEU platform library, with courses that meet the ongoing education requirements for all clinicians (additional $30/month with 1-year commitment). Relias has nearly 1000 trainings and 100 CEUs, including required Ethics trainings. WA State currently allows licensed counselors to complete all their CEUs via virtual/online platforms.
  • Business Phone Line — you can opt into a business line RLC can set up for you (additional $25/month with no annual commitment), managed via a Google Voice app on your cell phone and connected directly with your business email
  • Flexibility and independence with your schedule — there are no minimum or maximum thresholds. As a 1099 Independent Clinical Contractor, you set your own schedule, and this can serve as your primary practice location or a supplemental one.
  • Financial flexibility — work as little or as much as you prefer, designing a workload that meets your own financial, business & personal goals.
  • Established & organized income/pay routine — twice a month via direct deposit from revenues that can be transparently tracked, including billing status, via our contracted EHR & HRIS platforms
  • Intern supervision opportunities — RLC has a large, established intern program with connections to most local clinical graduate programs/schools. For those qualified, you could apply to contract as an Intern Supervisor for additional income and expansion of your clinical career.
  • Independent but not isolated — with our team of peer clinicians and accessible consultations with clinical supervisors & business owners, all clinicians have the support needed for clinical and business-related questions and/or barriers. Our supportive Admin team is also available during business hours Mon–Fri for help in navigating any of our systems or platforms. RLC has also developed numerous resources accessible to providers using our systems and growing clinically.
  • Financial transparency — RLC utilizes an EHR system that allows you to track the revenue you generate, check the billing status of any completed session 24/7, and access support from our Front Desk, Billing and Bookkeeping departments. Empowering clinicians over their income capacities is important to us, and we have set up systems with that in mind.
  • Dependable billing — RLC maintains a set billing timeline you can depend on and has a 99.7% billing efficiency rate — meaning RLC goes out of its way to collect on the revenue you have generated, which includes navigating insurance barriers, and will work with providers in real time when a billing barrier occurs.
  • EHR System — our EHR system is built specifically for clinicians to meet all RCW/WAC and insurance expectations, minimizing insurance take-backs and the time it takes to document. It also has a built-in secure client portal for communicating and interacting with clients safely and reliably — including completing intake documentation, screeners and assessments. It's structured to make documentation easy, supportive, organized and reliable.
  • Career Pathways — RLC values empowering individuals over their career, knowing the incredible privilege it is to be a provider in our community. Whether a provider initially contracts us for just sessions, or eventually transitions to contracting clinical supervision for interns or our Incident to Billing team, there are numerous opportunities for career growth. RLC has operated in Clark County since 2010, having grown exponentially in its locations and size.
